dscf8504Is it too early for resolutions? Probably. But I make a resolution almost every week so for me this is pretty standard practice. Actually sticking to the resolution is another thing all together. Maybe that’s because a post-workout buzzed Nia declaring “THIS IS SO AMAZING I’M GOING TO WORKOUT FOR AN HOUR EVERY SINGLE DAY FOREVER” isn’t the most realistic or reliable.

These are my actual, sensible fitness goals for 2017.

Actually run a 5k. I kind of hate running. Not s much as I did a few years ago when running for the bus, even when extremely late, was unthinkable. I started training for a 5k using the couch25k app earlier this year and it went pretty well for the first 6 weeks. Then I hit a wall and got stuck on week 6 for about 3 weeks and got so pissed off and bored that I just quit. It seemed to me that 5k is a relatively short distance and that it shouldn’t be taking me this long to achieve it. In 2017 I am going to try again with a fresh outlook. I am not a runner naturally and I have had Asthma since I was a kid. It might take me a little bit longer than some people but I can and will do it eventually.

Build some core strength. I held a 30 second plank yesterday and I swear it nearly killed me. My whole body was shaking the whole time and afterwards I had to just lie there on the floor until I felt strong enough to move. Lucky I was at home not at the gym. When I was doing BBG I found the abs days sooo hard. I would put it off and sometimes not do it at all. So my goal is to do a 30 second plank every until it becomes a bit easier. Then I will add 10 seconds to the time and so on. If anyone has any other tips or ideas about how to strengthen my core please leave me a comment and let me know!

Workout 3 times a week. I want to exercise for at least 30 minutes at least 3 times a week. Sometimes I will increase the workout time or the frequency of my workouts but I seriously need to commit to 3 times every week.

Actually complete 12 weeks of Kayla’s BBG. I am planning to do this a little way into 2017 around March/April. This will give me a chance to improve my fitness a little bit before I try and do this again. I found the leg days kind of easy but as I said above I could barely do the arms & abs days.


Do the exercise I LOVE.  My favourite exercise is swimming but I hardly ever go. I really hate getting my nearly naked bod out in front of loads of people but once I’m in the pool I can swim for an hour and barely notice the time go by. It’s one of the best exercises you can do so I really want to start going every week in 2017. I also love Kettlercise, even though it kills me, and I want to start doing this again at home.

So those are my fitness goals for 2017. You might notice I don’t have any specific weight loss goals written down. I do want to lose weight in 2017 but I want my main focus to be on feeling really fit and healthy so hopefully the weight will come off as well. If anyone wants to be my fitness buddy let me know – I need motivation.
